Most of us as teens don’t really read the newspaper, or watch the news. It’s considered an adult thing, right?…
While I am one of those who don’t really pay attention to any of the these, I realize it is important to have a better idea of what goes around us, and outside of our own neighborhood, city, country. And our school thinks the same so our Language teacher thought it would be a good idea for each of us to look for an article about anything going on around us. So I chose one from USA Today that actually talks about a protest that happened this past June in our own country. Even though we all know what happened and why, it talks about other situations in other Latin-American countries, that is why I chose it.
We are to present it in class on Monday, give our opinions on it and also look for some useful words and give the definitions.
This is the article.
In Writing & Oral class we were paired up and told to make a presentation about a legend. The first task was to look for the story. In Sol & I’s case, ours was in a video form. The second task was to look for a response to that legend. Our was a Spongebob Squarepants parody of the Hollywood Hotel. And lastly, we had to make our own response, we made an acrostic poem.
Here’s Sol & I’s presentation:

Pilar, our Writing & Oral teacher gave us an activity to write about Mrs Bixby and The Colonel’s Coat. This is my letter from Miss Pulteney to her friend telling her about the fur coat Mr Bixby gave her.
Dear Emily,
I haven’t talked to you in so long! We need to meet sometime to catch up.
I met this man, actually I have known him for quite a while but I haven’t known him this well since we started dating. He’s my boss, I’m his assistant. He’s a married man so we’ve been hiding it for a while.
That was until today. I think his wife is no fool. He went to a pond shop and got a mink fur coat. It is beautiful and he decided to give it to me but first, he cut off a small piece and made a neckpiece to give to his wife.
I feel so wealthy and elegant wearing it now. Everyone will treat me with respect.
See you soon,
Bonnie
We’ve been learning how to write narrative stories in class and have been seeing some useful vocabulary. I made a Prezi with some of the words:
